Halloween means the end of yellow

It's the last day of October (aka Halloween) which ends the month of yellow for the RSC.  All I got done this week is the cake stand that I showed laid out last week.

(That Kaffe print makes me happy!)

The other big deal about Halloween is that Bonnie Hunter announced the colors for this year's Mystery:  Grassy Creek.

I've been admiring the colors in her Appalachian Autumn quilt since the day she posted it, but had been trying to resist its charms.  As it turns out she made it out of the leftovers from Grassy Creek.

Resistance was futile. Looks like I'm in!

I've got plenty of oranges (because I've never met an orange I didn't like) and I've got a ton of reds on hand from making Sand Castles 2 for my grandson.  (Red has been his favorite color practically since birth, so I'm stuck with it)  I'm pretty sure I've got golds left from Allietare and En Provence, and lime greens just seem to magically turn up in every nook and cranny.

I'm still debating whether I want to go with the grays (gray is so gloomy and I'm trying to chase gloom, not embrace it) or to substitute with blues.  I've got plenty of time to dither between now and Black Friday!

Linking with SoScrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday and with Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!  Come along and embrace the scrappiness!

Hi, Mangofeet! I've been thinking the same thing about the grays for the new Bonnie Hunter mystery. Blue like the autumn sky might be just the thing. I'm such a chicken, though, I might wait til the reveal to start mine.

Grey may seem gloomy, but it really makes other colours (especially warm ones) pop, so don't be afraid to use it!

Love this yellow on red cake stand!
I keep thinking I have made enough blocks for mine then I lay it out and realize more are needed. Maybe it will be set together in November.

Well, dang, I may join you this year. I love the colors and I like that string piecing is an option (that I won't choose). Gray doesn't have to be drab and dreary, BTW, so please consider ...

I've never done a BH mystery, but those colors are definitely very enticing!

Isn't purple the new gray? Thanks for giving me the heads up about the new mystery challenge. Although I don't expect to take it all the way, the color selection part is always loads of fun.

Cheerful Cake Stand block to add to your collection, Gayle! Grassy Creek definitely has its appeal. I will collect the clues. Too many other projects lined up right now to do any more than that!

I think if it's the right gray (not steel like the chip) it would be good. I, too, am just collecting clues. I feel a need to finish Unity first! Love your yellow basket.

Since Frolic is still stalled with multiple clues half finished from a century ago and En Provence is still a flimsy waiting to be quilted and there are way too many other UFOs floating around, I'm just going to watch Grassy Creek and see how it flows.

It gray hangs around with happy fabrics it learns not to be so gloomy. I'll bet you could make a very happy looking orange cakestand on gray or gray cakestand on orange.

I’m thinking of going towards slatey blue grey instead of just grey. Grey just isn’t in my wheelhouse.

I tried to resist Bonnie's Appalachia quilt but only lasted for maybe 24 hours. But I have to wait to see the reveal of the mystery before I decide whether or not to do it (usually decide not to..have only done Easy Street to date). So I'm making progress on the Appalachia quilt and am saving the clues for the mystery just in case.

What a great way to use all your oranges. Have fun!
