Whoosh goes September!

September has completely gotten away from me.  I did manage to get some sewing squeezed in (finally) but bogged down on the energy needed to post about it.  So, here I finally am, with fistfuls of pictures.

One last blue Jacks for this month's RSC.   I'll be doing a quick paw-thru in the other bins to see what blocks I need to make in blue for the last week of the month.   Jacks, Buckeyes, and Centennial stars are all in good shape.  I need to haul out the clucker bucket and see what would look good.  I also need to make my Squared Away blocks for this month (and last month as well.)

Since I have plenty of blue Centennials, I went back and made some purples.  How on earth I'm light on purples, I'll never know.
I fixed that!

There!  Five new Centennials.  Now I need to hit the greens and the pinks to bring those totals up, too.
Today was a good cutting day:
Centennials -

and lots of loony little logs -

and a few more potato chips (though I was careful not to get too close to that tray of temptation...)

Also finished this week was Sunflower #5 and I started testing for centers.
Purple, maybe?

This Kaffe print is brighter in the photo than it is in person.  (It seems to have lit up the whole block, for that matter.  My camera got all excited.)

And a green that looks better in real life than this photo shows.

I couldn't get a good bead on that green color until I noticed that photographing this Centennial star next to it brought out the true hue.  (Check out the photo above of that purple star - I left in that green corner when I was editing)

It's hard enough to get my camera to show purple properly - now it's going to mess up green, too?  Argh.

And I'm still plugging along on my Demented bits.

Because what else could I be but Totally Demented?

Hip deep in squirrels

Astonishing, I know...

I finally decided which center to use in the first squirrelflower... er, sunflower block.  This plaid just leaped out of a stack of fabric and insisted it was The One.

I'm not going to argue.

The second block was easier.

Now I just need to decide on the backgrounds.  That shouldn't take any time at all, right?
Right.

Squirrel Chips...  umm, I mean Potato Chips continue to accumulate, too.

The orange ones are particularly good to see since it's the RSC color for August.

And it's an ongoing squirrel since it's way too easy to cut more triangles as I go along.  No end in sight!

Speaking of triangles, I'm up to 92 of the Demented blocks, out of 256.

Despite that running tally, I'm not purposely making 20 blocks at a time.  I guess that when the stack of new blocks gets about that tall, I decide that I should count them up and add them to the bin.

I'm at the point where I'll be assembling eightsies into sixteensies again - let's see if this time I can hold out past 20 before I get too curious.  Just to break the chain, you understand.

I hate being predictable.  Well, other than the fact that you can depend on me to chase squirrels.

I'm naming this one Potato Chips

Because nobody can eat make just one...

And I've got a bunch more triangles cut and standing by, because these are too easy to throw together.

It occurs to me that the only way I'm going to get this particular squirrel under control is to just make a small quilt and declare myself done.  (Shhhh.  It could work.)

I started assembling groups of four hourglass units with center squares of dotted b/w prints, just to see what they would look like, then laid them out on a light background.

There are two distinct ways of setting these little blocks -
this way,

and (rotated 45 degrees) this way.

Cathy (the one who set me off on this squirrel chase) is making hers like in the second photo, in what's basically an Ohio Star block.  I'm undecided which way to go.
Clearly, I need to make more blocks.  You know, just so I can make an informed decision.

I did manage to tear myself away from the potato chips long enough to make a couple of Squared Away blocks for the RSC2018 sampler.

With all the 2" squares and triangles I'm cutting for Totally Demented, it was easy to pull some bits together for these blocks.  (I'm doing the 7.5" size blocks, which in hindsight was a very sound plan!)

I still lack the pink Squared Away block, because I missed it along the way, but once I get that done I'll be all caught up.  I've loved each and every one of the blocks we've made so far this year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next!
