My triangle stars are now a flimsy. Or a top. (Could someone explain to me the difference? Is there a difference?) (I'm ancient - back in my day it was just called a top.)
I need a bigger design wall - this quilt measures 76" square and just overwhelms it. (My 'design wall' is really just a big sheet of flannel clipped to a metal shelf unit, but it's still a step up from my 'design floor'!)
This next photo was taken before I got the top border sewn on, but you can see how I resolved the corners of the sawtooth triangle border.
That corner light triangle is trickier than it looks - the tip is a wider angle than the 45deg angle of the kaleidoscope ruler (which is the angle used throughout the quilt), but slightly narrower than the angle of the tri-recs ruler (which I think is somewhere in the 50's - google just failed me when I tried to look it up). I did a bit of fudging and got everything to lay flat, finally. (I'm extremely glad that squares only have four corners - by the fourth, I was actively cursing.)
I have enough of that lovely stop-border print to use for the binding. Oooo - maybe with a flange binding, using light neutrals for the flange? Hmm...
While I'm pondering that, I'm going to enjoy looking at this finished top. Or flimsy. Whichever it is.

i love this version...have one in progress myself but with the pink background like the one in the magazine....beautiful!
The term flimsy means an unfinished quilt top - I just find that the one word is easier to use than three words. I love this info that I found in a 2015 blog post -- "...There have been major discussions in regards to where the term flimsy came from with the Brits blaming Australia and Oz blaming Ameria and Amerian blaming Brits and around and around the world it goes. It's quite funny because on one knows for sure." That in itself made me laugh. Some want to call it a quilt top. Okay, go for it! Call it what ever makes you happy.
I'll probably continue to call it a quilt top simply because old habits are hard to break. But personally I like the term Flimsy. It's really quite fitting. As another person commented "I have to laugh at the people who dislike the word flimsy because it sounds like your quilt top will just fall apart. lol Try washing a flimsy prior to quilting it and see how it disintegrates. The term Flimsy is highly accurate." I think I have to agree with her .... (source: http://www.quiltingqueenonline.com/2015/04/flimsy.html)
No matter what you call it, yours is FABULOUS!!!
The blue you chose for the background sets off all those triangles beautifully. Congratulations on the top.
Maybe it's a flimsy because it doesn't yet have the "body" of a finished quilted! Whatever, this is absolutely gorgeous! Your blue setting fabric and the red stop border/binding fabric are perfect choices to highlight your pieced blocks.
Oh yes, I made a border like this years ago. Such a struggle! You did a wonderful job getting the corners to line up! That blue is a fabulous background for the scrappiness of the quilt and your border sets it all off so marvelously. I always thought 'Flimsy' was a British term, but what Julie said was interesting. Always something new to learn!
Wow! That quilt is WOW! The borders are perfect and so well made. (Yes, that triangle border looks like a major pain somewhere.) You got a stunner on your hand. Bravo! Excellent job!
You say tomAto, I say tOmato; to me flimsy, top, it's all the same. It's the cover of the quilt sandwich. There! lol. ;^)
It's a fabulous flimsy and a terrific top and genuinely gorgeous! Congrats. I'm not usually a border person (because I never know what to do or measure right if I do know what to do) but that border is really the icing on the cake. Yummy.
Superb! Love the blue. I'm a TOP person, myself, though I did show a flimsy at guild today ...
Wonderful! The blue sets all the scrappy happy stars off beautifully!
Whatever it is, it's wonderful!
I'm with Chantal! Wow! This really is wonderful, Gayle!
I am old school myself, so a top it is. Yet, I am open to learning new things, so it can be a flimsy.
Regardless, it is fantastic! Can't wait to see how you finish it!
Just beautiful!!
Woo-hoo! Fantastic finished TOP! (I usually use the word flimsy because it seems to be the word everyone understands these days, but back in the day, it was definitely a TOP!). I love that you used that amazing blue fabric for your background and the triangle border is a perfect complement!
Those corners were well worth the cursing. What a fabulous top/flimsy! It really sparkles. Well done, well done! You 'almost' inspire me to start cutting some isosceles triangles. My unfinished quilt tops used to be referred to as tops but I find the term flimsy less confusing. I mean, how do you refer to the top of the top otherwise? ;-)
What a fantastic quilt...I love it. And I'm so sorry to see you struggle to hang it on your design wall. Let me help you...just send it to me and I'll hang it on my design wall. As for flimsy versus quilt top, I prefer the term "summer coverlet" so I can pretend my quilt tops are finished.
Good for you sticking with those corners. They look great! That is a wonderful finish! And I'm with you, I'm used to calling it a quilt top and everybody knows what you mean when you say it. Flimsy? I'm kind of a literal kind of person so I never did get comfortable with calling a quilt top a flimsy when the original meaning of the word means "not very sturdy". LOL.
Squares quilts have four corners? Well, what am I gonna put on my trapezoidal bed? or on that triangular couch? Not to mention the dodecahedronical loveseat.
Love how this is turning out! AND love the blue you used, really makes it sparkle!
I call them quilt tops. Trying to use the term flimsy more but it just doesn't feel right.
Your top is beautiful. I agree with the crowd, that background color is yummy!
