Twinkle twinkle

I think it's a good sign when each star I make is my new favorite.

I've been getting some pieces cut ahead, but I'm a big fan of cut a little, sew a little, rather than cutting out a whole quilt to start.  If I'm going to make an error, I'd prefer to catch it before I cut out 900 pieces rather than after...
I'm still amused that these blocks, at 12", are the biggest blocks I've worked with in a very very long time.  I'm cutting 4.5" squares for the corners, and that's how big my Ohio star blocks finish to...

I had to attempt some color correction for this photo of more parts - everything wanted to be orange.  The blue squares in the middle are the same color as the blue triangles on the right in the pic above.  I'll leave it as an exercise in color visualization, since this was as close as I could get.

Not that I have anything against orange, generally speaking.  Just not in this quilt.

And, as Vic in NH guessed, there were monkeys.  They seemed to have ducked out of sight while I had the camera out, though.  I'm hoping I'll catch them tomorrow.  Wily little devils...

I cut a little, sew a little too! I hate the cutting part! And, since I'm usually scrappy it works out just fine. I never need a lot of any one fabric to complete a quilt.

I do some of each. If I'm experimenting I'll cut a little; same goes for scrappy. But if I am working with a limited palette and am confident in my fabric choice, I will cut it all so that I can pick it up and sew whenever I have a little time. Plus that helps me keep the cutting table a little better organized.

Love those twinkle blocks! I cut as I go also. It is easier to abandon a quilt that is not turning out as you hoped when you don't have the whole quilt cut. Plus it gets me to the sewing faster :)
