Red buckeyes meet the green clucker

Now that I'm home from my nice long visit, I've been moving my sewing studio up to the house for the summer.  Given the fact that I'm not the most organized person, even on my best day, things are more than a bit higgledy piggledy lately.
I did manage to get a red Jacks block done in the midst of the chaos.

And a couple of cute little red buckeyes happened, too.

Here's a fun fact that I don't know if anyone else has pointed out yet:  if you take four buckeye beauties (sorry, I could only find three for the pic) and lay them out like this -

you'll have a block identical to Bonnie Hunter's new leader/ender challenge, the Jewel Box Star.  I feel so ahead of the game since I've been making these buckeyes for a couple of years now for RSC.  Though I'm afraid if I use the Jewel Box Stars as leader/enders for my Buckeye Beauty quilt...  well, I'm just hoping I don't tear a rip in the fabric of reality.
I am seriously thinking of folding the completed buckeyes into this challenge, though.  It's the only way I'll ever finish, I'm afraid.

As long as I had the reds on the cutting mat, I tried to recreate the improv chicks I want to use in my Cluckers quilt.  (And I was horrified to find that my last blog post about that quilt was last September!  Argh!)
And then, since green had gotten short shrift back in March, I rummaged through my greens and made one of Sally T's racing chickens to add to the flock.

Luckily my block map with notes wasn't buried under a mountain stack of scraps and orts, unlike Every Single Other Thing I've been needing this week.
I've heard being organized is quite pleasant - I hope I get there some day.

  1. I love that expression "higgledy-piggledy". It beautifully describes the chaos that now lives in my sewing room. (I just gave up on tidiness awhile ago and try to ignore Chaos.) I love your Jack with the little hearts fabric. Cute! I thought Bonnie decided this block for her leader-ender project to spur you along. Silly me for thinking that, right? Lol. The little red hen, (isn't it a children book?) is so cute. Love the wing on the green one. ;^)

  2. There are several different layouts for those Buckeye Beauty blocks and each has a different name. Love your little hen.

  3. There is also a chaos over here.
I feel I need to organize again those scrap bins, or I will succumb

  4. Red (buck)eyes are always a favorite. As for chaos...I'm neat as a pin...where pins escape out of the sewing room table drawer, onto the floor and into my foot.

  5. Organization is (surely) overrated. We're simply artistic!! (Says the woman who can NOT lay hands on the gift that she bought for DS2's birthday and it's coming up quickly.) :P

At least you found some RED scraps to play with this week!!!

  6. So good to see the racing chook! Good luck with the studio move, rather you than me!

  8. My new favorite phrase: "I'm just hoping I don't tear a rip in the fabric of reality."

  9. I once had a refrigerator magnet that said "Creative minds are rarely tidy". I try to live up to that motto. I would guess that by the time you move the studio stuff to the house, it will be time to move it back to the studio.

  10. Higgledy-piggledy perfectly describes my sewing room too. Why put away the things we know we'll probably be needing shortly?

  11. My sewing room looks more like a scrappy bouncy house. If I trip and fall, at least I know I won't hurt myself:)

Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap! It is good to see your cluckers again.

  13. If the fabric of reality rips, who better to sew it back together into something new and wonderful than a quilter?? :)

  14. So fun that your old project is the same as Bonnie's new project. Hopefully that will make sure it gets moved along.

  15. Oh boy, can I relate to being not quite organized! And when I saw your buckeye blocks, I thought, "Hey, those look like part of BH's Leader/Ender Challenge!" and lo and behold, you came to the same conclusion! I started my leader/ender project this week - sometimes it's hard to remember it is for leader/ender and not the main attraction!

  16. I wouldn't know about that organized thing and it's nice to have Buckeye Beauty options. I don't do any L/E -ing but I guess I could always use the 2 inch scraps leftover after I finish Totally Demented. I like the Jewelbox Stars.

And how nice to see some chicks.

  17. Well, I am only 'organised' because I've just moved house... wait a few months, it won't last long! Love all your blocks, especially the 'buckeye beauty' ones.

  18. How fun that those Buckeye Beauty blocks make Bonnie's block for this year. Leaders and enders is a great way to move a project along. Hope you've made some head way on the organization and on stitching a bit too.
