Getting more Demented by the minute!

First of all, go see Sally T's fabulous demented top HERE, because she is all the kinds of awesome and has already finished hers!

My own dementia is lagging behind, but I keep puttering at it.  It's an ongoing process.

First, I stitch triangles.  Lots and lots of triangles.

And throw them in a bag as I go.

I need 2048 of them.  Yeah.  Two thousand and forty-eight little HSTs.

But the good news is that I'll only need 1024 of these little 4-patch units.  Things are looking better already!

And if I sew four 4-patches together, like this -

why, I'll only need 256 of these 6" blocks!  256 isn't hardly scary at all!

And if I sew four of those together into a 12" block -

I'll only need sixty-four!  Things are really looking up, right?  Sixty-four is like practically normal.

And, hey!  If I take four of those blocks and sew them together -

I'll only need sixteen of them!  Sixteen blocks?  Easy peasy, right?  I could make sixteen blocks in my sleep.  Totally doable.  And hardly demented at all.

Hmm...  I think I'm going to need more triangles, though...

  2. I don't know what your end intentions are for the triangles but that is sure a lot of them to have to make. And a very scrappy look. I like what I see thus far.

  3. Say, that's what I should be doing with my tiny pieces! What size are your HSTs? (I know you've mentioned it before but I've slept since then.)

  5. Sally's is indeed all kinds of awesome, but you look to be making great progress with yours, too.

I am still resisting the call of the demented...

  11. Yep, sixteen blocks made of easy squares and triangles is so easy peasy. I hadn't seen the finished top yet - wow it is incredible, I can see why you would want to make it.

  13. Oh WOW!!! Sally's quilt is awesome every which way you look at it. WOW! It's not that I am afraid of HSTs, like not at all and sixteen blocks is completely doable for sure. . . but wasn't there a mention of a certain number like 2048 of something to sew to something of 1024 and . . . I am slowly . . . backing up to the front door and . . . running away, ha! I'll watch yours grow in your sewing room, okay? Enjoy!! ;^)

  14. Thanks for the call out...but the advantage to your approach is that you can proceed more slowly and enjoy it more. So no need to count ahead. This quilt is about as demented as spools...and I love the process of making spools much more than sewing miles and miles of strips.

  15. Yep, totally do-able! And you are making heaps of lovely scrappy progress. I did smile though when I read your post, I never work out the actual numbers, I'd never keep going if I did!
