That is possibly the funniest food thing I've seen since ToolMan and I tried to make chocolate baskets by using balloons. Do you have any idea how far melted chocolate can be flung by exploding ballons? Even the dog was covered!
I'm glad he was laughing. I'm too chicken to fry anything at home- I probably would have been shrieking with each pop/explosion.
I can't figure out why the gnocchi would explode- it's just potatoes, flour and salt. I think the store-bought must kind of puff up on the inside when cooked, but the frying is giving it a hard outer shell. Yes, that sounds like recipe for tiny potato bombs.
