New year, new pink

Well, here we are in a brand-spanky-new year and the RSC has us all in the pink!

First cake stand of the year,

and another one all laid out and ready to go for next time.

And here's a moldy oldy -

yet another Jacks 'n Sixes.  I always think I'm done making them, but they're just so easy to cut out and zip together.  One of these days I'll have to pull them all out and count them to see if I have as many as I think I do...

One square-in-square block done,

and peeking in from the edge are these little nines that were inspired by Bonnie Hunter's Grassy Creek Clue 5.  I never met a nine patch I didn't love, and the orange centers for these are particularly perfect!

And just for grins I made some little sawtooth stars.  I have no particular plan for these, but there I was with fabric on the cutting mat and a rotary cutter in my hand - who can stop?

If all else fails, I can throw them into a table runner because I've rashly joined Joyful's Table Scraps Challenge.    (I figure I can be the Designated Bad Example for not finishing anything.  People will be able to say "well, at least I did better than Poor Gayle" and it will cheer them up)

And then, because I've once again fallen under the influence of the Amazing Cathy, and because I was cutting 3.5" and 2" strips anyway for my cake stands, I found myself with one of these Antique Tiles blocks.

Now I just have to resist the appeal of the other dozen quilts she's making using those size strips...

Linking with SoScrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday (even though it's currently Sunday) and with Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!  Come join the fun!

  2. I love that pink fabric with the cat faces. Cute! Love the cake stand. Both! I am tempted to make Jacks n Sixes. I am a fixation on HSTs lately. I see them everywhere and always find them so much fun. It must be a curse or something. Looking forward to the table runner gallery. I am not getting on the bandwagon but will encourage all participants. Anywho! You obviously have pink up to your elbows, so I'll let you work. Enjoy! ;^)

  3. I love all your blocks, and how you’re just flying by the seat of your pants this year with them. That’s what I’m doing, too thanks in part to you and Cathy! One never knows what we’ll have to show at the end of a sewing session!

  6. I started making the sunprint blocks and digging into pinks because of your terrible influence. But I have 4 more seams and then I will finish PSP20...so that’s why I’m blog cruising...hope no squirrels run out in the middle of the road.

  7. You have so many lovely blocks but in the ends you'll get some of them finished. At least you're sewing fabric from your stash and not out buying new fabrics, or are you? Before eating my breakfast this morning, I went and pulled pink strips from the 2.5" box. RSC block #5 will be starting today. Happy stitching!

  8. I have resisted the cake stands so far . . . your pink ones are seriously tempting me again though. And nine patches/HSTs are such a weakness for me. Perhaps my Easy Breezy will transform . . . SO many options. LOVE your cheerful perky pinks.

  9. What a wonderful array of pink, Gayle! I love basket blocks and I think Cake Stand is my favorite. Having some go-to blocks like Jacks 'n' Six is a good idea. (And, yes: The Amazing Cathy is tge Scrap Goddess.)

  10. I've been dithering for days (how's that for alliteration ?). I leaning toward making some blocks without a plan in mind. Strings, crumbs, HSTs in 2 sizes and maybe some four and nine patches.

  11. Love the new cake stand blocks - are they getting close to be a quilt yet? ;-)
I may have to give the square-in-square blocks a try; I have soooo many 2.5 inch scraps!

  12. Oh, today's post is like a dip into a box of chocolates. I can't pick a fav. And not only am I making those big square in square Sunprints (they actually get a partial border later on and then set staggered) but I'm making your small version now too...chips.

  14. Great start to RSC2021, Gayle! You are so funny describing your blocks! The Table Scraps Challenge will have another player to shake their heads over saying, "Poor Sue" too! Hahaha!
