RSC at last!

It's orange month for the RSC, which is my favorite.  I dug through my piles of scraps and started pulling pretties out to play.
First up was a pinwheel block - these have gotten short shrift in the last several months, so it felt good to get one done.

And then I absolutely didn't start another squirrel project nope nope nope.  Not me nosirree bob.  Nope.
Since I've been thinking about this one for months, and long-ago found the templates on sale, and was inspired by Cathy (repeatedly), I'm counting this one as something I already had in progress.  The only difference is now I'm using fabric instead of ether and whimsy.

I got the petals ring done, and then started auditioning centers.

Decisions decisions.

I hope I can decide before I have to go through it all again for the second one...

Linking with SoScrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday (late as usual) and with Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!  Come see all the scrappy fun!

  1. Can’t. Stop. Giggling. Cathy almost got me on this one but so far I am resisting. Happy you shared with Oh Scrap!

  2. Wooooohoooo! Good for you! I need someone to sew along with. I mean with whom to sew along since I think I still remember we are not supposed to end sentences with prepositions. I wondered what you had been doing.

I think I like the dark brown center. No, no...I think I like the bird/nest center. No, no...I like the roses.

And then you get to go through it all again for the backgrounds unless you aren't mixing those up too.

Go Gayle! (Wondering where I put mine...)

  3. Gayle, that flower block is just awesome! Is it English Paper-pieced? I can definitely see why it would be hard to resist!

  4. Happy to see you are up to old tricks again. lol. Love you just the way you are. I like the birds or the one just before it. Do you still have the fabric you used for the yellow/orange petals? Cathy used the same fabric for the middle. Anywho! Just saying. Whatever you decide, remember it is your quilt, your call. ;^)

  5. Love those sunflowers.
I've got to clear out a few quilts first, but I've been plotting out some checkered dresdens in my head!

  6. My vote is for the bird and nest or the rose and daisy. The project is going to make a spectacular quilt, but the piecing is too fussy for my taste!

  7. Molly got so close to a squirrel she could smell its fetid breath. Molly says I can use your influence to finish up on the pinwheels. But that's it. She also said that squirrels love to eat sunflower seeds.

  8. Cathy is the WORST...BEST?...inspiration out in the ether-lands! I can't tell you how many different projects I have started because of her. She is so stinking creative!! And good for you for "not" starting a new project. :)

  9. I can see where those Squirrel...er, Sunflower blocks could be addicting! I had to look away, as I'm on a UFO-finishing binge. I hope.

  10. I like the first option at the top for this block, but that is just my opinion. I'm starting back at an old squirrel, started over 8 years ago... scrappy log cabin, built with one strip of every 1800's reprint I've got. Started it, and have been adding logs to the bin in the years since when I purchase another yard of said fabrics. Very likely have enough logs to do other things with, just as long as some gets into this quilt! Well, at least that is the plan at the moment.

  11. There you are with those wonderful sunflower blocks. (I am resisting doing these. I know they are just too hard for me, but I love them! Plus I don't need to start one more quilt!!) And there you are auditioning fabrics, too! I'll look forward to see which you chose. Your sunflowers are gorgeous!

  12. At first glance, I thought you had made about 8 outer rings with all those different centers and was really impressed with your speedy speediness! That's a tricky block. Yours are looking mighty fine so far! And "nosirreebob" made me smile. My whole family says that :)

  13. It was only a matter of time before the Squirrel Queen followed Cathy down another rabbit-, er, squirrel-hole. Truly, we should all be hunting for squirrel fabric for you this fall season so that you can make this a Boho Squirrel quilt (like Cathy’s Boho Roosters). Whatever you decide, though, it will be awesome!

  14. A lovely block. Yessirreebob. The second one reminds me of a sunflower. This will be a gorgeous quilt.
