Orange is the New Neutral

(Y'all knew I was going to go with the orange, didn't you?)  (And since the RSC color for August is neutral, the only way I can be in this month is if I count orange.)  (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.)

With my checkerboard blocks well underway,

and my nice neutral for the sashing in hand,

I've started assembling blocks for my "Are We There Yet?" version of Long Time Gone.

The left side is shaping up nicely.

I think I'm going to really like this!

Since this quilt is all about the scraps and the neutrals and the neutral scrap, I'm linking up with SoScrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday (late again!) and with Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!  See you there!

  1. I love how you quilt is coming along. When my kids were little and we would be on a trip they would ask me "Are we there yet?" I would always tell them "We're not going there". That's going to be the name of my Long Time Gone quilt....lol Hugs

  4. I love the randomness and variety of the blocks you're including in this quilt and I think your neutral orange looks great. The puzzle of fitting all those blocks together makes my brain tired. Did you choose a a particular size as a standard variation - like 1 1/2", or 2", or 2 1/2", or...?

  9. Hey, Freddy Moran declared red to be a neutral in her world so why not orange in yours?! I'm loving the way this quilt is shaping up. Makes me wish I'd learned about it sooner so I could make one like it!

  15. Love, love, LOVE the orange! Now I know you were steering me away from orange so I wouldn't steal your thunder. Especially love the clarity of your blocks.

  16. The orange is just assertive enough to hold up against all the colors and patterns. It unifies them all. Can't wait to see the rest, and neither can orange piglet sneaking a peek.

  18. Orange has become my favorite color too - which is odd because I hated it in the 70s after seeing it everywhere. All of your blocks are gorgeous and look so good together.
