Who else could combine glitter, pumpkins, and the owl and the pussycat? (Or would...)

I finished my En Provence top, but after ironing the last seam, I folded it up and put it away in the Box of Finished Quilt Tops without taking a photo.  Apparently, I'm done with it...
I do have this photo I took of the border, though, where I was trying to show some of the kitty fabric I used (look, Sally! Kitties!),

and noticed I had an owl and a pussycat right next to each other.  This makes me happy.

Another thing that makes me happy is giving in to the temptation to make a few Glitter blocks.  Glitter is my carrot-on-the-stick quilt - my reward for diligence in working on some of the projects already in progress.  And since Cathy is now making Glitter, too, I've been jonesing inspired to play with mine.   I pulled out the bin where I've been putting cut pieces-parts and picked out some pretties to play with.

I arranged the combinations on plates, telling myself I'd use them as leader/enders.

Yeah, right.
That top one was just staring at me, so I sewed it together, too.

And then I pulled out all my completed blocks.  There are only ten, but I really like seeing them gathered together!

And who remembers way back last fall when I fell for the squirrel of pumpkins?
I don't think I ever showed the picture of the finished top.  Here it is, complete with my foot.

I only bring it up because I've started quilting it.

Walking foot, how I love thee!

Since I'm all about the scraps, I'm linking with Quilting is More Fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!  Come see all the pretty!

  1. Oh I know the seduction of pieces laying there just waiting to be sewn to their buddies! Hope the quilting goes smoothly and quickly for you. :-)

  2. I call those unexpected little pieces in quilts the "smile factor". When you have itty bitty pieces in a quilt you can quilt in lots and lots of smiles and, heck, even adults love to play I Spy even when they are by themselves!

Oh, Glitter, how I love thee...and now you know why I don't leader/ender! Or is it now I know why.

So you will be ready for next fall with something. It's good to plan ahead.

  3. Oh those Glitter Blocks! So beautiful! Every time I see them, I am reminded of the glass icicle ornaments we had in the Christmas tree when I was young. They had an indentation in the middle that looked like a star or a flower. Love your beautiful work on these blocks. My favorite is the foot! Lolilol! You should have put that in the title too. I am happy to see your pumpkins again. I love it. Enjoy the quilting. ;^)

  4. Your blog title made me laugh, because the answer is: anyone from New Orleans preparing for Mardi Gras! See http://kreweofmuses.org/shoes/

  5. I loved those pumpkins when you were working on them before, so glad to see you're quilting them! The Glitter blocks are really fun - I'm trying to figure out how they're put together, but after the center, I'm not sure. Are there templates involved in cutting those end pieces? Have fun with them!

  6. Cute Glitter blocks! I mostly fail at leaders and enders too. My brain can only handle stitching one thing at a time.

  7. Loving those glitter blocks! I giggled when you spoke of leaders and enders. I often catch myself using my L/Es for sewing my L/Es. Sometimes they are just too tempting! Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

  8. I'm the same way. Unless the L/Es are extremely simple I find myself making them as the main project of the day. Lots of lovely blocks here.

  11. Those glitter blocks are your chocolate apparently. At least they have no calories, just great colorful looks. Congrats on working on quilting the pumpkins!

  13. hmph, I've been loving glitter blocks for a while. I checked the book out of the library. I looked at the pattern and closed the book. It must be more fun to make than it looked. Maybe you could just make me a kind sized quilt.

  14. Dearest Gayle,

According to the Cat's Quilt Policy Guidelines, every quilt should include at least three cat fabrics. Also, pictures of quilts should feature cats, not feet. Furthermore, cats and glitter do not mix.

    Please try harder to comply.

    Respectfully,

    Molly

  15. One day I should love to make Glitter blocks, I think the Jen Kingwell book is a treasure trove of scrap patterns, did you find the blocks tricky to put together? Yours are looking beautiful.
