'Tis the season

The trouble with this time of year is that all the most interesting stuff I'm working on is stuff I can't write about since it's all top secret type gifty goodies.
Thank goodness for Allietare, or I wouldn't have anything to talk about at all...

This week's clue involved sewing strips and cutting them

and sewing again into little 4-patches.

I didn't finish a lot of units, but I got a start on cutting strips, and sewing and cutting the 2-patches.

To ensure a lot of variety, I've been cutting the strips into 6" lengths, sewing a gold to a neutral, then cutting into  3 2" duos.  In the interest of efficiency, I tried leaving the gold strip intact, but sewing 6" lengths of neutrals to it end to end.  Efficient, but I'd sometimes end up with unequal lengths.

No worries, though.  That last little fella just got trimmed to 1.5" wide,

then got folded along the seam, and trimmed again to make a finished 1.5" 2-patch unit.

It will go straight into my Leader/ender project pile.  No waste!

Oh, you noticed my finger a couple of pictures back?  Yeah.  I was trimming a thread with my hideously sharp fabric shears and snipped right into my finger.

And being a quilter, my first thought was "Oh, no!  My good fabric shears!  Cutting not fabric!  Bad!  Dulls them!!  Oh, no!"
Not, you'll notice "Oh, no!  I've slashed my finger open and must now seek a bandaid!  Oh, no!"

Priorities, people.
It's all about the priorities.

I'll be linking to Oh, Scrap!  because scrap quilting is the best quilting.  With or without bandaids...
And since there's Allietare action, I'll link with Bonnie's Monday linky party, too.

  1. Your gold and neutral 4-patches look good!

    Actually the priorities should be:
    1. Oh no, the good scissors!
    2. Don't get blood on the quilt!
    Then 3. Get a bandaid.

  2. eeeek! It takes a breath to notice the cut... I hit my head on a fabric drawer yesterday and saw stars like a cartoon. Quilting ain't for sissies... it's a dangerous hobby with death defying tools.

Gayle, you know the packages of antihistamines say do not use heavy machinery when taking them... now, watch out! you need those fingers to sew.

LeeAnna who once sliced off a long section of that pointer finger with her rotary cutter

  3. I don't like making mystery quilts because I don't want to spend a lot of time making the quilt only to find out that the designer has thrown in a technique I don't like or wound up making a quilt I didn't like. But seeing all your parts together looking so gorgeous, it is very very tempting to dive in.

  4. Are you sure your first thought wasn't "Oh, no! Don't bleed on the fabric!

  5. I have a tin of bandaids right in my sewing room. I don't like to stop quilting to go track one down. Those little snips hurt! Thanks for sharing your 4 patches with Oh Scrap!

  6. Snipped fingers are one of the hazards of sewing. Glad it was scissors though and not a rotary cutter. Could have been so much worse.

  8. Ouch! I've done that too.

I still have a few scraps of that moo fabric! Haven't seen it in years though so it was a thrill to see it.

  11. Ouch! I can sort of feel your pain. I had a recent disaster too. I have waist length hair and usually wear it up to do machine quilting/sewing but left it down when I was quilting that Sunbonnet Sue and somehow my hair swished around, went under the needle and got caught in the quilting a little bit.

I like your gold fabrics...I think you must do some online shopping the same place I do!

  16. I love your "priorities", I always thing the same way, to be a quilter is a diagnosis, isn´t it? :))

  19. Scissors should be OK if the blades didn't hit the bone. :) I'd rather be concerned about the fabric as I hate blood stains. Nice blocks!
