I've never been afraid to bite off more than I can chew...

I bought the Fall Vogue Knitting issue for one pattern.
This:

It's Nancy Marchant's Crossing Over - a hat made with two-color brioche cables.

I want to knit this hat.

Never mind the fact that I've never done two-color brioche cables.
Never mind the fact that I've never done two-color brioche at all.
Never mind the fact that I've never even done one-color brioche. Brioche is unexplored territory. I have never brioched.

I want to knit this hat.

  1. brioche is not hard
2 color brioche is not hard either (its some of the easiest color work)

    what is hard is:
    1--picking up a dropped stitch,
2--frogging (impossible --well not really but it does require super human skill)
(see big book of knitting for a tutorial--or do what i do, read the tutorial, and realize, its easier to just frog back to ribbing and start again!)

take care--Its not car knitting or casual knitting--but its not overly hard either..

  2. Wow! That is one heck of a hat!

I have done one-color brioche and always wanted to try two-color. But OfTroy is right - it's pretty much impossible to pick up a dropped stitch.

I made a few mistakes in my one-color brioche scarf, and I gave up ever trying to rip it back and fix it. I just made up the stitches and carried on.

  3. You can do it! If you can do those crazy socks for Madman - you can handle this!

  6. I love brioche stitch! It's not hard, just different - at least until you get used to it. I've been meaning to try some two-color brioche - just because it's there.
