Much easier day, today. Yesterday I had to work 7 to 5, which is a two-hour earlier start than my normal 9-5. Coming on the heels of the time-change, it was a little rocky. I was so afraid the alarm wouldn't go off, or that I would oversleep, that I woke up every 20 minutes, gasping and thinking "OMG - what time is it?!?" All. Night. Long. Not restful. Stir in a little extra anxiety - "Oh, no! Did I set the alarm clock right for the time change?" - that made me get up out of bed at 3:00 am to go check my watch and my cell phone for the correct time, and you have a recipe for almost no sleep at all.
Then the long day at work.
*sigh*
As it was, last night after hitting 'publish', I decided I didn't even have enough energy for lolcats. I sat down on the couch, picked up my knitting, and promptly fell asleep.
Ha! Been there, done that. All of the above. Several years ago, I had a weeklong trial on my docket. The night before, I kept waking up dreaming that the alarm clock was going off. Must have gotten up about 5 or 6 times in the middle of the night before realizing I was dreaming. Good thing the first day was routine motions that didn't require a great number of gray cells. ;)
ReplyDeleteI did that, as well! Early flight that required a 2:45 am wake up but I worried about the time change. /sigh

That happens to me any time I have something big I have to get up for, guaranteed!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I have even been known to set the kitchen timer to sleep in 90-minute increments. Because for some reason my brain trusts the kitchen timer more than the alarm clock, watch, AND cellphone, even when they're all set at once!
I also used to have pathological OMG I might be *LATE* fears but realized over time even if I was late it would more than likely be just fine. It's not like the time police would take away my birthday....

ReplyDeleteJust for the record, if, say, your alarm was set for, oh, 4:30 a.m. and you had forgotten to change it on Sunday. On Monday, it would go off at 3:30 a.m.
ReplyDeleteAnd then you could just be frantic for an hour wondering if you go back to sleep will you wake up again and being annoyed that you're losing an hour of sleep.
Ask me how I know.
But that is better than waking yourself up all night wondering if you changed the alarm at all.
p.s. And on Sunday, the day of the time change, it was 6:30 a.m. before we realized that we'd missed an hour of sleep.
This time change, I rocked the ineptness.
