Where does the time go?

I thought I had posted earlier in the week, but it seems I was wrong.  (It's possible I dreamed it...)

Here's the little rascal that has sucked up so much of my time lately -

Her name is Chuckles, and she's the sole survivor of a litter of fifteen.  This photo is the best I could get of her - it's blurry because she Never. Stops. Moving.   (She's playing with a ball here, which is her second favorite thing to do.  Eating is her very favorite thing, of course.)

The only sewing I've managed to squeeze in is finishing the back for the Twinkle quilt.  I laid it out on the big dining table to get it ready to baste.

I had a bunch of triangles left over, so I've used them to piece a strip for the back.  This was partly for interest, and partly so I wouldn't have to drive myself crazy piecing short narrow bits together to make the backing wide enough.   (I had two 3.5 yard cuts of this pretty striped fabric, which I got long before the top was finished, thinking it would be plenty.  Optimism continually bites me on the butt.)

I had the back laid out on the table and was smoothing it and taping it down, when it dawned on me that it should be upside down.
Doh!
Finally, after much wrangling and starting over (because I realized that I was going to have to lay it out with the width of the quilt running the long way on the table because ginormous table isn't ginormous enough for ginormous quilt), I started pinning.

Hopefully the quilting can commence in the next couple of days.  Yay!

Your quilt is gorgeous and you made a beautiful backing for it.
Chuckles is so cute.

So sad the rest of the litter didn't make it after all your efforts. But she/he's a cutie! Glad to see you're finally finishing up my favorite quilt.

Awwhh! She's so cute. Love the name too.
Sounds like you are having a lot of fun with this ginormous backing. Repeat after me; the end is near, the end is near. ;^)

I would get nothing done with a little piglet around! Your twinkle star quilt is so lovely. Have fun quilting. And thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

Say what? You have responsibility for Chuckles? Do you live on a farm?? Here I thought the flying monkeys, chicken and pigs were only in your sewing room!

It's always satisfying to be able to use scraps on a quilt back. Are you quilting by hand or on the machine?

Well, it took me all week to make the backing and get the layers basted on a mini quilt, so of course your ginormous one is taking awhile! Once you get past the basting, the end is in sight! I love Chuckles, but how sad that the others didn't survive. Sounds like she will be fat and happy before you know it!

Love your 'twinkle star' quilt. Are you machine quilting there?

Oh, a real piglet is on the rampage. She has to have a spirit to be the sole survivor. That is a huge quilt, but how lovely!

One out of fifteen? She's a survivor, for sure! And cute! Good thing you realized the backing was the wrong way before you started quilting--it's going to be beautiful!

Chuckles is adorable! And I love the strip in the backing -- much better than a plain back, kinda like an easter egg in a computer program.

Chuckles sounds like a real rascal. She must keep you on your toes, or blame her distraction for your mixup with the backing. Glad you found it in time. It will be a great quilt.

Yep backings and pinning, not my favorite bit of the process, but necessary! Glad to hear someone else has the same issues!

Are you still feeding Chuckles or do you now have some free time?

I don't have a table big enough for pinning ginormous quilts so have to go to the floor and pin half and then roll it up and pin other half. With that method I've had backs going the wrong way and been half done pinning. Oh, cuss words! And oh my aching back. And that's why I hand quilt a lot of large quilts...I hardly pin baste them at all. So, are you hand quilting? Twinkle is looking mighty awesome so far.

Love, love that scrappy star top! Hopefully you got everything all turned right so you can start on the quilting.

Oh I'm sad to read that this cutie is the sole survivor, Chuckles looks so happy now. Possibly you have a little more time between feeds to stitch, That is a seriously big quilt you have there but a beautiful one - rather you than me doing all that basting!
