En Provence - Stepping back helps

While I'm still not entirely convinced about the yellow, I am happier with this the more pieces I lay out.  Just stepping back makes a world of difference in this busy pattern.

The more golden I go, the better I like it, so I may use that as my guide.  I've got lots of golds left over from last year's Allietare.  Or I might jump off in a whole new direction.
(I've never been a big fan of yellow, so I'm wondering how much of my antipathy for it here can be chalked up to that.)

I see some purple four patches that need to be turned the other way, but that's easily fixed.  All in all, I like En Provence.  I like my orange stars, my blue stars, and my purple paths.
As for the yellow, I may or may not have a plan...

Linking with the last En Provence party at Quiltville.  Thanks, Bonnie!

Oh Gayle! I love your colors!! Those orange stars just sing with joy!! I quite like the yellow and the golds. I'm a firm believer in it's your quilt so use what makes you happy. I didn't have many yellows but had a nice piece of yardage so my yellow is constant as are my bright pink stars.

it's so cool to watch it all come together.

I think the yellow works better in this quilt than most because of your orange stars. But don't let my thinking influence your decision. It is, after all, your quilt. I like it a lot. Great work! ;^)

Love the colors - I think the more it gets together, the more the yellow blends in.... I think yours goes good as well becvuase of the orange stars - they seem to be friendly

I like your orange stars and the purple paths too. Curious to see what options turn up for the yellow bits. It does look better with more of it laid out.

I love your orange stars! And the blue stars add such a softness to the look. I'm not sure about the yellow... it brings a lot of light into the block, but it might be too bright. Your idea of more golden yellow might be just the right thing. Great job!

So interesting looking at how this is coming together! Love your colour combo, even those scrappy yellows & golds!

It is definitely one of those designs where you need to get a few blocks together to really appreciate its beauty. I think it looks good in your colours, but I'm sure if you change it, it will look good too.

Yes, the yellow and orange are playing much better together. And now the blue is starting to speak up. You've pulled together a great combination. Oh, and Molly recommends that you build a design wall so kittens will have something to climb.

I read somewhere that you should use yellow in a quilt to make it sing. I tend to go more golden when possible also, yellows are my least filled color bin! Love the quilt!

Go back to Bonnie's layout before you change the direction of the purple four patches. She doesn't have them all going the same direction. I think using a more golden yellow is a good plan. In the ones I've seen with bright yellow, the yellow takes over and dominates the quilt. I have to lay my out (on the bed,no design wall) with the sashing. I'm not sure about my magenta. I think it may also shout. I don't think I would be brave enough to use orange.

I think both the yellow and gold are good, but in my opinion have to pick between one or the other. Lean more towards yellow or towards the gold, but maybe not both?

The yellow/gold works well in some cases and doesn't in others. Your's looks really good. I like your color palette.
