And now for some purple stars

I still don't know what this block is called.

But I like it.  (There's that sneaky foot of mine again...)
My intention had been to make even numbers of the two kinds of blocks - stars with dark points and stars with light point - but obviously I failed.  Now I have to decide if I care enough to round them out by making two more light-point-stars blocks.
While I'm thinking about it, here's a look at all the stars I've got done so far.

These are 6" blocks, so I'm going to need quite a lot of them to make a quilt bigger than a dishtowel.  I think I'll just carry on and not worry about it, since this is probably a multi-year RSC project.

One of the things I'm doing this year, since I've got such a ridiculous number of Rainbows going on, is to make the most of my fabric cutting time.
For instance, for the block on the left (known variously as Jacks and Sixes, Anvil, Hovering Hawk, The Daily Planet...  No, wait, that's something else.  Nevermind.) I need to cut 6 half-square triangles, which is actually kind of awkward.  I can either cut the triangles one at a time from a single layer of fabric strip (nope), or I can double the strip, cut my three pairs of triangles, and end up with a point on the end of the strip.  Seriously, I really might as well cut four pairs of triangles and have a set left over.
And looky there - Buckeye Beauty needs two HSTs.  I think we have a winner.

I love pretending I'm organized.

And here's this week's piglet, made with that luscious plaid? argyle? print.

His ears, feet, nose, and tail are much darker and purpler than this photo shows, but my camera doesn't like purple as much as I do and frequently refuses to show it.
The non-showing-up-well print I used is a scrap from my grandmother, leftover from a purple quilt she made for one of my cousins many decades years ago.  I'm pleased that it's going to end up in a quilt that I'm making for my dad.   Circles and circles.

Linking with ScrapHappy Saturday at So Scrappy.  I love seeing all that scrappy goodness!

"I love pretending I'm organized" -- what a terrific line! Lovely purples this week.

Lynx needs to help with the purple pigs, too? What's intriguing is that if you look at this pig, it looks like a purple whale shape! Perhaps one extra HST would complete the fluke of the tail? Okay, I'll go sit in the corner now with Lynx and whine.

It doesn't really matter what they are called. Those Stars look FABULOUS!!

I think you are organized. I start with my largest block and the scraps trickle down into the next size, into the next size, and into the next size.

Okay, let me try again. Some days typing is a real challenge!

Um...voice of experience...those really old pieces of fabric...did you wash them before using? Wiggle them around pulling both sides looking at the fabric to see if there was any potential for failure?

I have a use-to-be beautiful hand-quilted quilt that had some old fabric worked into it. The old fabric after several washes begin to fall apart. If I undo the hand-quilting in the spots where the fabric shredded and replace the fabric I will never be able to replicate the quilting. Because the lady who did the quilting, quilted with teeny-tiny stitches and I don't quilt that small and even.

Love those stars Gayle!

I saw the whale at first glance, but I'm sure it is the camera hating the purple. Blue and purple flowers are the hardest to photograph true to color because they are not solid pigments and so transmit light somehow. So don't worry, all your projects are coming along fine. Good work!

Love those stars! I don't have my Brackman encyclopedia handy, but those stars are definitely related to the Fifty Four Forty or Fight block. I keep saying I'm going to make some of those stars (getting proficient with the Tri-Recs ruler, doncha know) - maybe I'll have to give it a whirl this week.

I love pretending I'm organized too! The fantasy is nice. I love the stars! If you have what you like, why bother making others? You'll never notice in the finished quilt, and there might be a color coming up where you'd like to do it the other way around.

I really like your star blocks, too! It's fun seeing the whole collection because then we do start to see the alternating darks and lights. That will make a great pattern!

Love the stars. Hmmm...a whale. Maybe that would keep cats at bay.

Very efficient cutting! I find myself using one of the fabrics I cut each day for my Quilty 365 blocks. Love those purple stars!

That piggy print is a Houndstooth - and it is fabulous!

It doesn't look like you have to pretend you are organized!
