It's all about the food

Though I spent the morning just lolling around slothfully, I ended up in full production in the afternoon. First, I made these:And these aren't just cake doughnuts, like I made last fall. These are honest-to-goodness, full-tilt-crazy Raised Glazed Doughnuts. They're lumpy, bumpy, and oddly-shaped, but oh my goodness, they're tasty...
A pork roast was popped into the oven, potatoes were peeled for mashed, and I tried an experiment with one of our "Delicorn" squashes.
I made a baked stuffed squash, with a filling made of bacon, sauted onions, apples, brown sugar, and a big pinch of cloves. Here are the two squash halves, stuffed and ready for the oven.

And here they are after a good long bake. (You can see on the left one where I poked with a fork to see if it was done.)

The squash got a thumbs up, though next time I think I'll use more onion, and a lighter hand with the cloves. This is the first year we've grown enough squash that I dare to experiment. When you only get 5 or 6, you hate to lose one to a cooking accident.

Pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffed squash, and doughnuts for dessert. Madman had to roll me to the computer chair...

Mmmm. I wish I could be rolled over to your kitchen! Your squash stuffing sounds delicious.

OMG, I'd kill for those donuts. My mother used to make homemade donuts and my sisters and I still talk about them. We had ribs and sauerkraut with squash on the side for dinner.

Sadly, no donuts.

I always intended to make doughnuts sometime while my boys were growing up. Guess that will have to wait for the grandchildren...

Why does this make me want to make donuts? I neverever make donuts. My Mom made donuts, maybe once, when I was a kid.

That squash looked like something Dude might like. Which is really good because as soon as the oven (yes, the new one) is fixed, we're baking squashes.

I love fresh home made donuts!!! However, don't do this nekked.... hot oil spatters. Ask me how I know?

That is some ambitious cooking- especially the donuts.O Impressive! I looove fresh home made donuts but I don't think I'm woman enough for the task.

Ooo, the squash looks good! I think I'm going to have to pay a visit to the farm where I pick my raspberries and pick up some acorn and butternut squash. A stuffed squash would be a great dinner. Do you cook up the filling before stuffing the squash?

Mmmm, donuts! But I stay away from those things these days -- as much as is humanly possible, that is. However, very soon I will be enjoying a dinner that will be relevant to this post and your last post -- I'm going to cook up your Delicorn squash and the beans I got from Leigh. I didn't get very many, but they will make a wonderful soup, perhaps with kale and sausage! Can't wait!

Anyway, I'll have to bring you a Honeyboat so you can run a side by side comparison with a Delicorn. I haven't processed the seed yet - the Honeyboats improve in storage, so we're eating Butterbushes (a Butternut type) right now
